What is an RPC type? RPC stands for Remote Procedure Call, a programming
technique that provides the ability to call procedures outside
of an application’s current address space. In QMS,
Distributed Computing Environment (DCE) is the RPC type
used for Windows NT/Windows 2000 and Open Network
Computing (ONC) is used for Novell NetWare.
What is a transport type
and which one should I
use?
Transport type is the network protocol used by RPC.
Examples of transport types are TCP and UDP Internet
protocols. Use the one that is installed on your system.
I try to set up a connection
to a machine but it fails.
What should I do?
Check the following items:
❑ The QLview/QLconfig agent is installed and started on
the remote machine.
❑ The network connection between the local and remote
machine is functioning (use a network tool such as
PING to check the connection).
❑ The correct RPC type is selected.
❑ The correct transport type is selected.
❑ For QLconfig, the correct password is provided.
Where can I get the DMI
error codes?
From the Intel DMI 2.0 Software Development Kit (SDK),
which was provided by Intel originally and now is supported
by Smart Technology Enablers (http://www.enablers.com).
The QLogic icon in the
system tray is flashing;
what happened?
There are active alarms from the adapters that need to be
acknowledged.
What is a loop map and
why I do not always get a
full list?
A loop map shows the physical connection of an arbitrated
loop. It is not valid in a fabric environment.
What is link status and
what does it tell me?
Link status is a list of the Fibre Channel loop port’s error
counts from the Read Link Status (RLS) extended link
service. It gives the Fibre Channel link diagnostic of the port.
What is the difference
between a loopback test
and a read/write buffer
test?
A loopback test is a diagnostic tool that is internal to the
QLogic QLA2xxx adapter’s firmware. A read/write buffer
test consists of SCSI commands sent to a SCSI or Fibre
Channel target.
Which protocols are
supported in NetWare?
TCP/IP and IPX/SPX are supported.
Why can’t I connect to my
Novell NetWare server
with TCP/IP using my
server name?
Due to a limitation of the DMI services for NetWare, the IP
address must be used instead of the server name.
